Psychotherapy
Background and Training
I received my BA in Psychology from Wesleyan University in 2001 and my PhD in Clinical Psychology from the University of Washington in 2015, then went on to complete internship and a postdoctoral fellowship at the Seattle VA, where I continue to work part-time. I offer treatments that have been shown effective in randomized controlled trials, including Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), Functional Analytic Psychotherapy (FAP), Integrative Behavioral Couple Therapy (IBCT), Behavioral Activation, Exposure Therapies, DBT+Prolonged Exposure Protocol, and Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (see the Resources page for more information about these treatments). Through individual, couples, and group work, I help clients improve intimate relationships, overcome trauma, promote health, prevent relapse, gain work and academic success, embrace their gender identity and sexuality, and process grief and loss. I enjoy helping clients learn about their emotion system and how to regulate it in service of their values and goals, especially when those include deepening relationships.
Therapeutic Style
In life, and in my psychotherapy practice, I thrive in moments of deep connection, intense emotion, shared imperfection, and the integration of multiple truths. If you enter therapy with me, we will identify and work towards specific desired outcomes using the science of behavior change and our shared wisdom, while building trust and mutual respect. I take a radically genuine approach to the therapeutic relationship, meaning that I am fully myself with you. I have opinions, emotions, and biases just like any other human. I will challenge you, and work to understand you deeply. And we will learn from one another. Throughout this collaboration, we will generalize what we learn in session to your life in the "real world," helping you to deepen your most treasured relationships, follow your values and reach your life goals.
